New agro-processing trade platform to debut in 2028

AGRICUTURAL ECONOMY Food and beverage processing remains central to Africa’s agricultural economy, serving as a key link between primary agricultural production and manufactured consumer goods
A new trade platform focused on processing technologies for Africa’s food, beverage and pulp and paper industries has been launched by trade exhibition organiser Montgomery Group Africa.
The exhibition, called AgroPro Africa, will have a strong emphasis on advancing the agro-processing value chain and is expected to take place in March 2028.
Montgomery Group Africa reports that it will be co-located with packaging, plastics, printing and labelling exhibition Propak Africa, and is aimed at responding to rising demand for advanced processing technologies, sustainable production solutions and stronger regional supply chains in agriculture-linked industries.
Food and beverage processing remains central to Africa’s agricultural economy, serving as a key link between primary agricultural production and manufactured consumer goods, says Montgomery Group Africa commercial director Joshua Low. “In South Africa, the sector converts raw agricultural outputs into products for domestic and export markets, while supporting employment and investment across farming, manufacturing, logistics and retail.”
He explains that the launch of AgroPro Africa places agricultural technology at the centre of this value chain, positioning processing innovation as a driver of industrial growth and improved competitiveness in the sector.
“The exhibition will bring together the full agro-processing chain, including raw materials, primary and secondary processing, packaging and labelling, logistics and distribution, waste management, sustainability, research and development and technology services,” he says.
He adds that the event will provide a platform for suppliers, manufacturers, processors and service providers to connect with stakeholders in one of South Africa’s largest and fastest-growing industries, while giving visitors access to processing technologies from local and international suppliers.
Low adds that businesses attending the exhibition will be able to explore new technologies, supply opportunities and market developments, while also participating in seminar workshops, live demonstrations and product launches.
While food and beverage processing forms the main agricultural focus, the exhibition will also include pulp and paper processing, a sector that supports packaging supply for agricultural and consumer goods industries and is increasingly developing fibre-based alternatives to plastics.
AgroPro Africa 2028 will be held from March 7 to 10, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
